Is it important for cultures to protect themselves from outside media influence?

Is it imortant for cultures to protect themselves from outside media influence? Think of the consequences if cultures had no control, or care of outside media they were being influenced by. In my opinion "culture" is the definition of our own unique way of living which draws back to tradition and loyalty to our ancestors the people who influenced us to begin with. Being influenced by the media can easily change that. Think of how much the media can and does persuade us to believe and do other things. Not all media have negative influences on cultures but it also does have benefits with the way different cultures live today. Whether they've been influenced by the way they eat, travel, communicate, or just daily routine lives. The media provides useful, but again useless information and influences. So should cultures protect themselves from outside media? I think cultures should, but again be influenced by a certain amount.
